Better World Books
Each year the District Governor has the chance to select a project that every chapter in the district can get involved with. After giving it some thought, I knew that the first project I was introduced to my first year as a CKI member had to be my governor's project.
As one of our new International service partner this year, Better World Books capitalizes on the value of the book to fund and support literacy initiatives locally, nationally and around the world. The three cofounders of Better World Books realized that hundreds of thousands of used books end up in landfills each year, but their genius idea of converting donated books into funding that supports world literacy has grown into a global success. The founders attribute much of their success to a very simple concept: "We made it easy for students to give back, in a simple and tangible way – by offering them the option of donating their used books."

By creating a partnership with Better World Books and CKI, we can continue to contribute to societies with a different take. Holding book drives on our campus to collect used, unwanted textbooks is just the simple act of kindness that your chapter can partake in. With one book drive, not only are you helping children from around the world to improve their literacy, but also improving the environment by decreasing methane and greenhouse gases, decreasing landfill space and the saving a huge amount of electricity.
